BROOK TROUT FISHERY
PROJECT
(For Immediate Release From The
NPS 5/29/2002) |

BROOK TROUT
|
| The brook trout is probably
the most treasured fish found in coldwater habitats from Northeastern
Canada to North Georgia. With it's classic salmonid body form,
distinctive "wormy" back and blue haloed orange spots, it's
easy to see why. Southern brook trout prefer cold (less than 19 degrees
Celsius), well oxygenated, rocky, tumbling mountain creeks and small
streams. Threats are loss of habitat, acid precipitation, and
encroachment of other non native salmonids such as rainbow trout Onchorhyncus
mykiss. There is a southern strain of brook trout found primarily
south of the New River drainage; these fish are considered rare due to
habitat loss and the introduction of northern strain brook trout and
other exotics. |

when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his
feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not
died. |
